Square by Square is an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch and Android-based mobile payment card reader designed like an Audio jack that plugs into your mobile device. Square allows users to accept payment cards through their mobile, either by swiping the card on the Square device or by manually entering the details on the phone, Introduced in early 2010 by Square Inc. The Square app is expected to be available for laptops at some point in the near future. Square was founded by Twitter creator Jack Dorsey.

 

It’s simple and fast, but how it really works is the true question. Simply signup for a free account at https://squareup.com/ during the signup process you’ll be asked for your mailing address, so that Square can send you your free card reader, you’ll receive an automated email notifying you that your reader has been shipped. Once you receive your reader you’ll simply plug it into your headphone port, open the square app and be ready to accept payments face-to-face with a quick swipe. You can track sales, tips, taxes, and send receipts. There is no extra equipment, complicated contracts, monthly fees or merchant accounts required. Type of payments you can make using the Square include credit, debit, prepaid or gift cards. As an added benefit square will donate a penny of every transaction to a charity cause of your choice.

Square can be used by anyone looking to do a face-to-face transaction payment. This product is great for crafters, craigslist sellers or buyers, contractors, towing servicers, cleaners, repair workers, painters, photographers or basically any small businesses that require instant payments. This product would be good for small businesses that don’t have to worry about traveling with extra equipment like credit card machines. Who knows before you know it the government will be using this new product to collect faster payments, for example when a Police officer is issuing a ticket, instead of waiting for the ticket receiver to mail in a payment and police officer can swipe and get a payment instantly, to avoid non-payments issues for tickets.
